The cartoon of " Commander Mark "was created in 1966 through the work of the famous EsseGesse , whose members (Peter Sartoris, Dario Guzzon, John Sinchetto) presented to Sergio Bonelli work on a patriot who fought during the American War of Independence against Redcoats (see also Blek ). Bonelli gladly accepted the proposal, remembering also that in 1953 his mother Tea, then head of the company, had turned down a job, always signed EsseGesse, who had more or less the same plot of Commander Mark, but as the protagonist counted Il Grande Blek . Thus began the prolific publication of Mark , who added much success already had thanks to the series of Captain Miki (another masterpiece signed EsseGesse, although, personally, not to my liking, of course, not from the point of view of comics, drawings are impeccable): The series lasted 24 years of uninterrupted work and unfortunately poor in misfortune. Sartoris and Sinchetto fact died: he was alive only Guzzon, scompraso in May 2000, supported by the excellent designer Lina Buffolente, he managed to continue the publication of the cartoon until January 1990. In this year then ending the regular series of Mark, but there are special books and reprints: on newsstands in fact you could find "Mark All" series, which consisted of a very durable albetto which were published in two episodes of the series.
The format of these books is "regular", ie equal to that of a Tex today, the same can not be said for the original ones, which are part of the regular series: in fact they are a unique case in the publication Bonelli. Included 96 pages (+ 4 pages cover typical of each balloon) basis only, but for which the first 64 were dedicated to the adventures of Mark, while the remaining 32 companies embraced other characters created naturally by EsseGesse (such as Alan Mystery from no. 1 to n. 104, and Il Grande Blek from no. 222 no. 280). Each story of Commander Mark ends strictly in the register which has begun, and only in special cases when calling extend another 2 or 3 books.
